With more high- and ultra-high-net-worth individuals relocating, estate planning is increasingly affected by forced heirship laws. Some countries have tightened enforcement: France through new legislation and Germany via a recent court ruling that may conflict with the EU Succession Regulation. This free STEP seminar will also cover Shari’a law parallels, planning for non-Muslims in Dubai and the UAE, and considerations for U.S. citizens with assets in these jurisdictions.
Speakers will outline strategies such as electing a foreign law without forced heirship, using trusts or usufructs, succession agreements, and no-contest clauses, as well as addressing enforceability of judgments.
